Do you enroll families who choose not to vaccinate or to delay vaccines?
Yes. As a practice, we support a parent's right to choose whether or not, and how to vaccinate their children. We believe in supporting parents, answering any and all questions about vaccines and believe in providing true informed consent, so that families can make the best choice for their individual situation.
Do you administer vaccines?
We do not currently stock and administer vaccines. We recommend that families use the Maricopa county or Pinal County vaccine clinics or the free vaccine clinics on the campus of Chandler Regional Medical Center or Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. We discuss what vaccines are due according the AAP/CDC schedule during the well child visit and direct families who choose to vaccinate, accordingly to the appropriate agency to obtain their vaccines. Stocking and maintaining the standards required to house vaccines is a large undertaking, and because of the availability of local vaccine clinics, we have not felt compelled to do so.
What does holistic mean? Do you always recommend natural remedies?
The term holistic, in the setting of nursing/medicine refers to treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of disease. With the expansion of so many non-traditional and natural modalities, the term holistic has come to be associated with naturopathy, homeopathy, and other alternative styles of treating illness. For the purposes of this practice, we are still traditional primary care providers tasked with knowing a little about a wide variety of specialty issues, along with having a deep knowledge of growth, development and common childhood illness. We also happen to have a good set of knowledge on natural modalities and provide care seeking to minimize traditional medical intervention, rather than rely solely on it, as best as we can.
